About Dr Henry Hughes

Hi there, Henry Hughes here. I completed my medical degree (BM BCh) at the University of Oxford where I also did a BA in Medical Sciences. Iโ€™m a Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP 2026) and hold some extra qualifications in sexual and reproductive health (DFSRH 2019), pre-hospital care (Dip IMC), sport & exercise medicine (Dip SEM), and diving medicine (L2D).

I previously worked in the Royal Navy (RN) full time, working predominantly with the RN divers but also working on ships. I subsequently transferred to the Maritime Reserves where I continue to work as a GP. In addition to my clinical work, I really enjoy teaching and instruct on a number of courses as well as teaching Bristol medical students. I have also worked with sports team and as an expedition doctor.

I currently live in Bristol but have worked in Scotland frequently and love spending time up here. I like being active, outside, amongst nature, and by the sea; fortunately, these are all things that Scotland is great for!
